Homeland Security funding increases are essential for New York and the greater Metropolitan area. New York City has been the repeated target of international terrorism. The federal government must prioritize Homeland Security funding for anti-terrorism security measures to high profile target areas like New York City, all nuclear and chemical plants, and other hazardous facilities in the greater Metropolitan area that could affect millions of citizens if targeted. New York State, which has many high value terrorist targets, currently receives only $32 per person in Homeland Security assistance while states which have relatively few available targets, like Alaska, receive as much as $92 per person.
