To our valued members and friends ~
The economic future of Queens has never looked brighter. New development is occurring all over the borough. Downtown Flushing will see high-quality development. Downtown Jamaica, is poised for growth with approval of the Jamaica Rezoning Plan, and the Willets Point project, which we have championed, seeks to establish an urban renewal area that would create a new regional destination that includes new housing, retail, office, hotel, convention and entertainment space, as well as thousands of new jobs during and after construction. Other projects in the Arverne section of the Rockaway and in Long Island City add to the anticipation of what 2008 has to offer businesses in Queens.
Queen’s business community is growing in other ways as well. Expansion of existing businesses including Silvercup Studios, The New York Times and New York Hospital Medical Center are adding hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars to our borough’s economy. 2007 also saw the creation of our borough’s third State Banking District in Long Island City. This District as well as similar districts in Jamaica and Corona represents investments of State and City government deposits in areas previously not considered. New BID’s in Sunnyside and Bayside, the first BID in Northeast Queens, were approved, adding to the dozen other BID’s already thriving in Queens.
At the Queens Chamber of Commerce, we share in that excitement. 2008 offers opportunities for our members like never before in our history. Our new web-site will become an even more powerful business tool as our borough’s economic vitality grows. This web-site features business people, like yourself, who know the importance of conducting business locally, with colleagues and friends as devoted to our county’s economic success as you are.
